About Naomi

Experience

I am a mother of four, wife, doctor, clinical educator, and academic. My career path has offered me many varied and wonderful opportunities to develop skills and interests both in medicine and outside of it.

I hold dual qualifications in law and medicine and a PhD in bioethics. This means that I approach my clinical practice mindful of my responsibilities to the whole person seeking care. It also means that I place high importance on being thorough, professional, highly-skilled, and compassionate in my clinical work.

I work as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist publicly at the Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg and the Northern Hospital in Epping.

I am involved in the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. I am a fellow representative on the Victorian State Committee. I am involved in organising College events, such as the Victoria-Tasmania Symposium, and as an examiner for RANZCOG trainees.

I am the Academic Coordinator for Learning & Teaching in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health at the University of Melbourne. This role involves teaching and coordinating the O&G term and assessment for medical students. My research interests are health law, professional practice, and medical ethics. I also teach law and ethics to medical students and guest lecture in the Masters of Health Law.

I place high importance on being thorough, professional, highly-skilled, and compassionate in my clinical work.

Education & Qualifications

I am a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG). I commenced my FRANZCOG training in 2016 and trained at the Northern Hospital, Mercy Hospital for Women, and University Hospital Geelong gaining experience in a range of different settings. During my training I was raising four children and completing a PhD in bioethics. I elevated to Fellow of the College in January 2025 following completion of my PhD.

My PhD from the University of Melbourne investigated doctors’ legal and professional obligations for surgical innovation. This was a multi-disciplinary thesis that developed a framework for responsible surgical innovation across medicine, law, and ethics.

I completed a Masters of Reproductive Medicine from the University of New South Wales in 2017.

I completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours from the University of Sydney in 2012.
